Plastic Geogrid in Railway and Highway Construction

Plastic geogrid is mainly manufactured from polypropylene or high density polyethylene, which are all UV stabilized, chemical and biological resistance. The plastic geogrid is mainly used in the construction of roadways, highways, railways, slopes for ground stabilization and subgrade reinforcement. The plastic geogrid is extruded into sheet and then punched into regular mesh pattern and finally stretched. According to the stretched direction, it can be divided into uniaxial plastic geogrid and biaxial plastic geogrid.

Uniaxial plastic geogrid

Uniaxial plastic geogrid, made of high molecular polymer, is extruded into sheet and then punched into regular mesh pattern and finally stretched in the transverse direction. This production can ensure the structural integrity of the geogrid. The main materials of the uniaxial plastic geogrid are high density polyethylene and polypropylene, which are highly oriented and resists elongation when subjected to heavy loads for long period of time.

Biaxial plastic geogrid

Similar with the uniaxial geogrid, the biaxial plastic geogrid is extruded into sheet and then punched into regular mesh pattern. But different from the stretching, the biaxial plastic geogrid is stretched in longitudinal and transverse directions. The material of the biaxial plastic geogrid is polypropylene, which is UV stabilized and chemical resistance. Biaxial plastic geogrid is mainly used in the road constructions for soil reinforcement and subgrade stabilization, it can also be used in the mining industries as the ceiling netting.
